Accident snarls traffic

Saturday, August 9, 2008

An evening wreck shut down an interstate exit ramp, one lane of traffic and sent one woman to the hospital just before 7 p.m. Friday.

The accident occurred as Stephanie L. Blake, 36, of Bethany, Mo., was exiting Interstate 29 in her Hyundai.

The Hyundai was struck by a Chevrolet driven by Mark Feiden, 54, of Union Star, Mo., who was traveling north on U.S. Highway 169, said Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Dustin Lyle.

Mr. Feiden failed to stop at a red light just before striking the Hyundai, said Mr. Lyle.

Officers from the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department were asked to block the flow of traffic on the northbound Interstate 29 ramp as well as any eastbound traffic on U.S. 169 for nearly an hour before the scene was cleared.

Ms. Blake was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center where a spokeswoman said her condition was still being evaluated late Friday.

Mr. Feiden was cited for failure to stop at a steady red light, which resulted in an accident.
