Following a late summer thunderstorm 341 Kansas City Power & Light customers — including Heartland Regional Medical Center and Missouri Western State University — were left in the dark.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several counties in Northwest Missouri, including Buchanan, just before 5 p.m.
The storm knocked down power lines across St. Joseph and KCP&L deployed extra crews to clean up the mess, said North District Manager Matt Dority.
Heartland’s power is supplied through two circuits, Mr. Dority said their secondary circuit suffered an outage during the storm. Missouri Western also suffered a massive power outage. Power was restored just after 6 p.m. this evening.
Mr. Dority hoped to have power restored to the residential areas affected within the next few hours.
