A car smashed into a building on the southeast corner of Seventh and Felix streets Wednesday afternoon after colliding with another vehicle.
A wreck that occurred during the noon hour sent a vehicle through the front doors of a Downtown building Wednesday.
Leigh Violett, 32, of St. Joseph, was eastbound on Felix Street when the Kia she was driving was struck by a Volkswagen driven by Erin Mead, 21, also of St. Joseph. Ms. Mead was southbound on Seventh Street when she failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the accident, said St. Joseph Police Department Sgt. Bill McCammon.
The Volkswagen struck another vehicle that was northbound on Seventh Street while the Kia accelerated into the front of Universal Guardian Acceptance LLC located at 702 Felix St., said Mr. McCammon.
Amy Nagle, the Contract Administrative Manager for UGA, was working when the accident occurred.
“We were all doing our jobs and business as usual,” Ms. Nagle said. “Some of us were in the break room for lunch when we heard a big boom and then another big boom as the car came further into the building.”
Ms. Nagle said three employees who were at the front of the building when the accident occurred were sent home for the remainder of the day. None of the employees were taken to the hospital but appeared to be shaken up.
UGA settled down at the Seventh Street location in 2003 and underwent numerous changes to the interior and exterior since then. Ms. Nagle said they are trying to get back to business as usual as quickly as possible.

Confusion ensued for a few minutes following the accident.
Cleanup crews were in the building and window specialists were boarding up what used to be a security window and doors to the front lobby Wednesday afternoon. Ms. Nagle said there was no damage to the actual offices or equipment.
Ms. Violett, along with two of her passengers, Chaska Zirkle and Brian Bolonyi, both of St. Joseph, were transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center, where a spokeswoman said they were treated and released.
Ms. Mead was cited with a stop sign violation.

Must have been worried about talking on a cell phone or day dreaming about the ever important movie star of the week etc. As this wreck shows driving is a serious issue and needs to be taken seriously. What is the first thing most people do after a bad wreck? First make sure everyone in the car is ok - that is a given. Then what? Most people (those that care about human life) always check to make sure the other people are OK and not seriously injured correct? Well i know for a fact the person that caused this wreck did NOT check to see if the others were OK. It is human nature, well to those that actually have human emotions, to make sure other humans are safe and alright. This person not even going over and asking the simple question "Is everyone OK?" is a testament to this persons lack of human compassion. If you were in wreck would you make sure everyone was ok? If you answered "No" then you are worthless - end of story.
