5 suspects may face deportation
by Marshall White
Wednesday, July 30, 2008

Five people were arrested and turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation Monday.

The St. Joseph Police Department’s street crimes unit determined that all five were in the country illegally from Mexico, said Sgt. Eric Protzman, the unit’s supervisor.

The unit began a short-term investigation in June seeking information about the perpetrators of serious but non-violent crimes, Mr. Protzman said. The investigation identified the five subjects as individuals allegedly involved in criminal activity, but police declined to elaborate on the crimes.

The investigation ended during a traffic stop at 2:10 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Sixth and Patee streets when officers found the suspects in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am.

Arrested were: Berta A. Rubio-Jasso, 49; Cacari L. Santiago, 19; Celcilia R. Pascual, 32; Fidelina T. Rubio, 20; and Pablo P. Rodriguez, 38.

All five lived at 516 S. 16th St.

In addition to narcotics, the street crimes unit investigates violent crimes involving weapons and gun trafficking. The unit also works with ICE’s fugitive apprehension unit.

“This was a rapid and efficient response to the problem,” Mr. Protzman said.

They not only bring their labor but also their baggage good and bad. Better start checking them at the door.

Okay, this story says the exact same things as the story yesterday that was headlined "Five deported after criminal investigation" what is new in this one other than just rearringing the same sentences, even the same quote and changing the headline. Seems a wasted space in the paper to print the same article twice. Funny how on second thought they are going to headline this with "5 suspects MAY face deportation" when according to the first headline there were already deported.

It will depend on ICE if they are deported. Why weren't they charged and taken to trial for criminal activities?
Oh, bye the way, they found 50 illegals in 1 house in Phoenix yesterday and 30 in another! So 5 sounds good to people in Az.

azmaggie - 5 turns into 30 very quickly with this problem if it is not aggressively handled.

A certain well known St. Joseph organization spends alot of donated dollars on Illegals. From giving them food from the food pantry, to paying their rent and utility bills. You would be disgusted if you knew who it was, I know I am. These people don't even have to fight for appointments for rent/utility help like everyone else, they just call up the Hispanic speaking employee and get right in! I know this because I work for them. I am looking for another job currently because I just can't stand to be a part of it anymore

I’m pretty sure ajm is referring to the place on Cherokee. You see their vans running around town.

Close Henry, VERY close, but it's on North 3rd. I notice my other comment on the other article was removed, I wonder why. It said exactly what this one does.
