CHILLICOTHE, Mo. — A resident found a partially decomposed body Monday in a utility building near a county road in Livingston County.
The citizen came to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department to report finding the body in a utility building he owned. The building is located southeast of Chillicothe, said Sheriff Steve Cox.
The body is believed to be a male and doesn’t match the description of any residents previously reported missing, Mr. Cox said.
With the assistance of the Livingston County Coroner’s office, deputies collected evidence for an attempt to identify the individual and the possible cause of death.
Officers removed a firearm from the scene. Preliminary evidence shows a firearm may have been used, Mr. Cox said. This is an unattended death investigation, he said.
No further details will be released until the department has positive identification. No official cause of death will be released until lab results are completed, the sheriff said.
