by St. Joseph News-Press
Thursday, June 19, 2008

A St. Joseph man was injured in a wreck on U.S. Highway 169 just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Daniel J. Montgomery, 60, of Mound City, Mo., was traveling southbound in a 2001 Honda when he stopped in the left lane waiting for an opening to make a turn into a John Deere dealership on the left side of the roadway. He was struck from behind in the 3600 block of South Highway 169 by Lola Steiner, 81, of St. Joseph, who was driving a 2000 Mercury.

Ms. Steiner’s passenger, Logan Leek, 89, of St. Joseph, was riding in the back seat when the accident occurred. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was taken by ambulance to Heartland Regional Medical Center where a spokeswoman said he was in guarded condition late Wednesday.

CORRECTION: Due to reporter’s error an article on Page A7 of Thursday’s edition was incorrect. Daniel J. Montgomery is 16 years old.
