CAMERON, Mo. — A 52-year-old man was killed after his vehicle was struck nearly head-on on U.S. Highway 36 Friday morning, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Leslie Rardon, of Polo, Mo., was thrown out of his 1996 Chevrolet when it overturned after being struck by a 1996 Saturn. The Saturn had lost control on wet pavement and traveled into Mr. Rardon’s lane, the patrol report said.
The cars had been headed in opposite directions on U.S. Highway 36, just outside Cameron city limits.
Mr. Rardon was declared dead on the scene. He hadn’t been wearing his seat belt when the vehicles collided just after 7 a.m. He becomes the 70th person killed in an automobile wreck on Northwest Missouri roads this year, the patrol said.
The Saturn’s driver, Jennifer Reents-Dickkut, 33, of St. Joseph, suffered serious injuries. She was transported to Kansas University Medical Center via a hospital in Cameron. A spokesman at KU couldn’t confirm or deny she was a patient on Friday evening.
A third vehicle had been traveling west behind Mr. Rardon’s car when the crash happened. The driver, David Long, 45, of Gallatin, Mo., wasn’t injured when his 1997 Cadillac rear-ended the Chevrolet.
The patrol cited Ms. Reents-Dickkut for driving carelessly.
