Motorcyclist killed in accident Sunday
by St. Joseph News-Press
Monday, April 27, 2009

An Amazonia man was killed Sunday after being ejected from his motorcycle while driving east on U.S. Highway 36 near 13th Street.

Dennis Strasser, 68, died at Heartland Regional Medical Center sometime after 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

Driving a 2007 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail, Mr. Strasser proceeded through the series of S-curves before running off the right side of the highway and striking a concrete median, said Chris McBane, a traffic investigator with the St. Joseph Police Department.

Mr. Strasser was wearing a federally approved helmet and speed wasn’t considered to be an issue, said Sgt. Bill McCammon, the traffic unit supervisor. A passerby stopped and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the sergeant said.

Traffic in the east bound lanes of Highway 36 were closed for about an hour, Mr. McCammon said.
