Care facility under scrutiny

Shady Lawn Nursing Home says it has 'cleared all deficiencies'

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced this week that Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Savannah, Mo., was not in substantial compliance with Medicare regulations and that CMS' agreement with the home would be terminated Aug. 23.

This means the Medicare Program would not pay for post-hospital extended care services for residents admitted after that date and, for those admitted on or before then, would stop funding within 30 days. However, Shady Lawn has made corrections to its CMS-cited deficiencies, administrator Helen Frye said.

"We're waiting for a revisit, and we believe we have cleared all deficiencies," she added.

Ms. Frye declined to elaborate on what these deficiencies were. Should a revisit determine the home is again in substantial compliance with CMS regulations, the agreement between the two will not be terminated.
