Economic workshop set for Pattonsburg

The city of Pattonsburg, Mo., will host a Fundamentals of Economic Development Workshop Sept. 22.

Christopher Chung, chief executive officer of the Missouri Partnership, is tentatively scheduled to be a guest speaker. Part of his address will be devoted to the recruitment of wind energy product manufacturers and associated industries.

Workshop topics will include developing a strong community, financing and growing new businesses. The workshop is intended to give the nonprofessional a basic understanding of economic development strategies and tools. It is designed for city, county, and state elected officials; local economic developers; and volunteers.

A location for the workshop has yet to be determined, said Pattonsburg economic development director/coordinator Richard W. Mooney. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Brownfields grants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 office in Kansas City, Kan., is accepting applications for brownfields assessment, revolving loan fund and cleanup grants through Oct. 16.

The funds can be used for assessment and cleanup of brownfield sites, including those contaminated by hazardous substances, petroleum or both.

Applications are open to individuals from local, state and tribal governments; non-profits; coalitions; land clearance authorities; and quasi-governmental entities.
