by St. Joseph News-Press
Friday, February 13, 2009

A Burlington Junction, Mo., man was injured Thursday after his truck ran off the road and struck a tractor.

Jared Carter, 30, was transported by LifeNet to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph for what were believed to be serious injuries, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A nursing supervisor for Heartland said Mr. Carter was still being examined Thursday night.

The patrol said the accident occurred about 3:30 p.m., when Mr. Carter was driving west on U.S. Highway 136 near Burlington Junction. He drove his 1991 Ford F-150 off the north side of the road, and it struck a 1985 Allis-Chalmers 8030 tractor, driven by John Blackford, 63, also of Burlington Junction. Mr. Blackford was turning north onto Dynasty Road when he was hit, the patrol said.

Mr. Carter’s truck was towed, while Mr. Blackford received minor injuries and was able to drive his tractor away from the scene. Neither driver was wearing a safety belt, the patrol said.
