BROWN COUNTY, Kan. — A St. Joseph man was injured when he was struck by a vehicle in eastern Brown County late Friday night.

Elmer S. Cornell, 82, was taken to Hiawatha Community Hospital for treatment, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report. A staff member was unable to provide a condition update Sunday.

The accident occurred at 11:20 p.m., three-tenths of a mile west of Tumbleweed on 330th Road.

A 1992 Ford driven by Amaryilis D. Horning, 66, of St. Joseph, was disabled in the road from a prior accident. Mr. Cornell was assisting Ms. Horning after that initial crash.

An eastbound 1998 Ford Escort driven by Benjamin T. Joslin, 36, of Mayetta, Kan., crested a hill and, due to ice, was unable to avoid striking Ms. Horning’s vehicle and Mr. Cornell.
