St. Joseph News-Press editor and publisher David R. Bradley was appointed Tuesday to serve on the University of Missouri Board of Curators, which oversees the operation of the four-campus University of Missouri system.

Gov. Jay Nixon announced several appointments to state boards and commissions, including two appointments to the MU board. The governor appointed Mr. Bradley, of St. Joseph, and Wayne Goode of St. Louis, a long-time former state legislator.

Mr. Bradley, 59, is the president of the News-Press & Gazette Co., the company that publishes the St. Joseph News-Press. He has served on the board of directors for UMB Financial Corp. since 1985, is a past president of the Missouri Press Association and the Northwest Missouri Press Association, a past chairman of the St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce, and a past president of the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art. The governor has appointed Mr. Bradley for a term ending Jan. 1, 2015.

“These are two Missourians who have demonstrated their leadership skills for several decades,” Mr. Nixon said in a prepared statement.

The appointments will be subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate when it re-convenes in January, but the appointed members will begin serving immediately.
