River begins to recede near Agency

Two highways at Agency, Mo., remain closed because of flooding, but the Platte River is expected to continue dropping Wednesday.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reported Wednesday morning that Route H and Route FF remained closed at Agency due to high water on the Platte River.

Also in Buchanan County, Route C between U.S. Highway 36 and Easton Saxton Road was closed Wednesday, state officials said. County Road 135 in Buchanan County and Thornton Road in DeKalb County also were reported open to traffic after being flooded earlier in the week, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The Platte River at Agency was forecasted to crest at 27.48 feet Wednesday morning. The river level is expected to drop slowly and go below the flood stage of 20 feet later this week.

Bill Brinton, emergency management director for Buchanan County, said no houses are in danger at Agency and residents there are able to get in and out of the community.

The National Weather Service said flood warnings remain in effect Wednesday for the Grand River near Chillicothe and the Platte River near Platte City.

St. Joe Now said weather conditions Wednesday are expected to be dry and hot, with highs in the low 90s and a slight chance of a shower.
