SAVANNAH, Mo. — Crowds are expected to flow into Savannah as the Andrew County Fair returns to the old fairgrounds on the east side of town.

The site will be a central location for everyone in the county, said Greg Wall, a county commissioner.

Local resident Ron Leeson donated 2.5 acres as an addition to the fairgrounds, and the county bought a little more to square off the area east of U.S. Business Highway 71, Mr. Wall said. Thanks to seven local companies, all the grading has been done and the area has been sown with grass seed.

A lot of attention will be focused on area students’ 4-H projects. Judges will be looking at 4-H projects in the courthouse basement starting Thursday.

Friday will be fun night on the Savannah courthouse square, where there will be games, rides, food and a two-hour concert, said Wayne Duncan, a fair volunteer and owner of Duncan Carriage.

Saturday will kick off with a parade in Savannah and a free lunch with MU Extension on the courthouse lawn. At 2 p.m., one of the fair’s big events gets under way — a draft horse pull. A veterinarian will be on site to test the horses for doping and to ensure that no animal is injured or mistreated.

“We think there will be more than 10 teams and that this will be a real crowd-pleasing show on the fairgrounds,” Mr. Duncan said.

The fair will go into quiet mode on Sunday and Monday, then begin a daily series of youth shows that continues through Saturday. Judges will be looking at the results of youth projects involving goats, poultry, rabbits, swine, sheep, mules and horses. More than 75 companies and individuals are sponsors for the this year’s fair.
