Press association offering journalism scholarship
by St. Joseph News-Press
Monday, March 16, 2009

Current and prospective journalism students are eligible to apply for a $500 scholarship to be awarded this spring by the Northwest Missouri Press Association.

The application deadline for the Marilyn Farmer Memorial Journalism Scholarship is April 24. Interested students, including both graduating high school seniors and current college students, may obtain an application form from any of the participating newspapers in the 19-county region the association serves.

William W. Farmer, the former publisher of the Atchison County Mail in Rock Port, made the initial gift in 2002 to establish the scholarship fund in memory of his late wife, Marilyn. The association has added to the fund and sponsors the program.

Interested students, parents or teachers also may contact Atchison County Mail Publisher W.C. Farmer at (660) 744-6245 or send a fax to (660) 744-2645. The newspaper’s mailing address is P.O. Box 40, Rock Port, MO 64482.
