A Stanberry man was killed Sunday morning after he lost control of the car he was driving on a rural Gentry County highway, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Troy L. Wood, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene by Gentry County Coroner Noah Mays.

The patrol said the wreck happened at 4:15 a.m., on Missouri Route UU, eight miles southwest of Stanberry. Mr. Wood, whose northbound 1993 Ford Mustang had crossed the center line, lost control of the vehicle. The car traveled off the east side of the road, struck an embankment and began overturning before it struck a barbed-wire fence.

The car became airborne and struck a second embankment, landing on its wheels off the east side of the road. Mr. Wood, who the patrol said was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected through the sunroof.
