Road projects continue

Sunday, May 3, 2009

Weather permitting, the Missouri Department of Transportation will work this week on several Northwest Missouri roads. Motorists may need to choose alternate routes. Drivers are reminded to reduce their speed and use caution when driving through work zones.

Area maintenance crews will narrow Pear Street to one lane on Monday. The work is scheduled to take one day.

The state awarded a $2.6 million contract to Norris Asphalt Paving Co. of Ottumwa, Iowa for a resurfacing project on U.S. Highway 136 in Harrison County. The contract includes resurfacing about 10 miles from the Gentry County line near New Hampton to the U.S. Highway 69 and Missouri Highway 13 intersection in Bethany. The project is scheduled to begin in mid-May. The paving is anticipated to be completed before the July 4 holiday. Highway 136 will be closed at the intersection in Bethany for about two weeks for realignment. Motorists will be directed to use a detour south on U.S. Highway 69 to Missouri Route AA, east to Interstate 35, then north on I-35 to Bethany.

The first Safe & Sound bridge project in Northwest Missouri was completed on Thursday by Loch Construction Co. of Maryville. The Missouri Route NN Honey Creek bridge deck replacement project took 44 days. The bridge was the first of 21 scheduled for repair in Nodaway County.
