Eats: Get your piece of the pie at Jerry’s Again

Jerry’s Again

125 N. Fifth St., Atchsion, Kan. (913) 367-0577

In Atchison, Kan., Jerry’s Again is the place to go for pie.

The pies were made famous by the original Jerry’s restaurant co-owner, Virginia Kuckelman, who made and still does make all kinds of pies daily, from blackberry to coconut cream. They are sold whole or by the slice and usually sell out by the afternoon. In fact, if you want a whole pie, you had better call ahead.

But Jerry’s Again is also the place for a leisurely lunch. They offer soups, salads and sandwiches along with a complete selection of imported beers, wines and cocktails served from a spectacular floor-to-ceiling bar. Popular lunch selections are their Reubens, Oriental chicken salad and The Jerry’s Two — a polish sausage with sauerkraut, cheese and thousand island dressing on grilled rye. They also have a special menu for children 12 and under.

The designer decorating throughout the spacious high ceiling building is done by her sister. And if it reminds you of being at Nell Hill’s down the street, that’s because Liz says much of it is from that store.

Jerry’s Again is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The restaurant is available for private parties in the evenings. They are closed on Sundays.
