Faith and fast cars don’t usually go together, but an event today at Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church will be an exception.
The church, located at Frederick Boulevard and Riverside Road, will host its fourth annual motorsports car show from 5 to 8 p.m. In past years, the event has drawn almost 2,000 people and featured more than 150 classic cars, as well as NASCAR vehicles and drivers.
“We’re always looking for ways to connect to people,” the Rev. Micah Fries, Frederick’s pastor, said. “So many people in the community are interested in cars, and church may not be a place they’d want to spend time regularly.”
There is no charge to attend the event, although donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted for The Grace House, located in Downtown St. Joseph. The night will include hot dogs, popcorn and soda; a motorcycle corral; a moon walk and games for children; door prizes, including NASCAR Nationwide and Cup series tickets and leather jackets; and a concert by country singer Joe Michael. Owners of pre-1979 classic cars also may bring their cars to display. The Rev. Fries noted that there’s rain in the forecast and that this might keep people from bringing out their classic cars, but in the case of rain, festivities will be moved inside and the NASCAR drivers will still be present with their vehicles to answer questions and to share their experiences in racing and as Christians.
The drivers coming this year are Eric McClure, driver of the Hefty race car, and Blake Koch, driver of the GodSpeaks car. Former NASCAR driver and current team owner Randy McDonald will be at the event as part of Finish A Winner, a ministry he created that holds NASCAR-themed evangelistic rallies. Partnering this year with Finish A Winner is what enabled Frederick to connect to the GodSpeaks racing group, the Rev. Fries said, and in turn, Frederick hopes to be able to give back to Finish a Winner by letting it see how this event is put together.
“You wouldn’t think racing and faith mix very well,” the Rev. Fries added, “but here we’ll have these racers who are committed followers of Christ.”

I believe it would be be a Honda, since the disciples were all of one Accord.
Sorry, couldn't resist that one. ;)
Wouldn't Jesus simply glide? Why leave a carbon footprint when you can leave no footprint at all?
I'll be at the show tonight signing autographs for my np fans, I'll be by my Mustang.
Hey John - I thought that was a good one..!
Here is mine:
Jesus didn't make it. He was busy "driving the merchants out of the temple.."
Sounds like a really fun event!
Jesus would want to leave as small a carbon-footprint as possible, but not spend an outrageous amount of money on a Hybrid. He would also want something sporty to show that he can take names and kick some (stuff), but not flashy as to make him seem like an attention-whore. I think he'd want a Ford Focus Hatchback.
are you kidding me? Jesus would be driving the best automobile in history. whats up with this carbon foot print? he would be driving a Ferrari g.t. or a testarossa, he's the man, a v.w. ? i don't think so. after all, if cant erase carbon footprints he shouldn't be Jesus.
this a great car show, i went last year. i wish i were in town ,i wouldn't know which car of five to bring.i know you who are car guy's know two of them, three wont run yet. working on them after retirement.
