Teenager killed in car accident

A Rush Hill, Mo., teenager was killed Friday afternoon when a car in which she was a passenger was struck by a fuel truck.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Shanna Sutton, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene on U.S. Highway 59, one mile north of Savannah, Mo.

The accident occurred as both vehicles were southbound. Matthew Russell, 39, of Savannah, was driving the 1998 International truck when it struck the 1995 Ford Mustang, driven by Kody Wood, 16, of Vandalia, Mo., when it pulled into the path of the truck.

Ms. Sutton was wearing a seat belt.

Most drivers familiar with this intersection realize it's dangerous. I've been the driver coming around the 59S curve and had cars pull out in front of me. And I've been the vehicle exiting 71S and unintentionally pulled out in front of someone. Examine the exit ramp and you'll see the tire tracks of experienced people veering sharply to the left - then back right - in order to stop with a better view of oncoming traffic. Tragically, this teenager didn't know this.

That was my Sister Killed in that accident! I am so in shock. It makes me very mad. If something could have been put on a sign or something then that would have saved a life. I think that the state should be sued for not having a sign up for it. It really makes me mad. I was very close to my sister. She was the only friend that I really had and my idol.
