Free concert today

The Full Life Trio, a Southern gospel music ministry based out of St. Joseph and Savannah, Mo., will perform a concert at South Park Ministries, 4405 S. 22nd St., at 6:30 p.m. today.

This is a free concert to benefit South Park Christian Academy; therefore, donations will be accepted. There will be concession items sold at intermission and a free hot dog and marshmallow roast at the close of the evening. For more information, call 232-3857.

Deeper Life Conference 2009

A Deeper Life Conference will be held at Grace Evangelical Church beginning during the church’s 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. worship services Oct. 11 and continuing at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 and 13. There will be children’s ministry and nursery care available at all services.

The conference speaker will be Dr. Ron Smith, president of Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Miss. The public is invited to attend this conference. For more information, call Grace Evangelical Church at 279-2090.

Winter coats needed

Hy-Vee, Brown Transfer & Storage Company, The Salvation Army and volunteers will be “Stuffing a Semi” with good used clothing from 3 to 8 p.m. Oct. 16 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Hy-Vee shopping center on the Belt Highway.

They’d like to help increase the resources for individuals in our community and give opportunity for increasing donations of coats for the Nov. 8 coat distribution. Throughout the month of October, The Salvation Army is collecting gently used coats to meet the needs of the disadvantaged in our community during the winter season. Coats of all sizes are needed. They must be clean and ready to wear, with all of their buttons and working zippers. Gloves, mittens and hats are also needed. Receipts for tax credit are available.

For the “Stuffing a Semi” collection, volunteers are needed. Please call 232-5824 if you can help load the semi. Volunteers can accept only clothing items at this special drive.

Shaun Agnew presents master’s vocal recital

Shaun Agnew, the director of music and worship arts at Ashland United Methodist Church, will present a master’s vocal recital at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Ashland. Mr. Agnew is in his final semester of graduate work at the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of Music and will be graduating this December with a master of arts degree in choral conducting. Normally, these recitals are required to be performed in the Kansas City area, but Mr. Agnew was granted special permission to have the recital in St. Joseph.

Featuring the works of Copland, Handel, Bellini, Duparc and Sondheim, the recital will cover a wide span of musical genres and styles ranging from Italian art songs and French impressionistic music to American folk songs and musical theatre. A reception will follow in the church’s parlor.

The Bryants in concert

The Bryants will perform at Gospel Music, 102 Lewis St. in Edgerton, Mo., at 7 p.m. Oct. 17. In 2008, the group was first runner-up for the Branson Gospel Singer Songwriter Association’s trio of the year, and this year, Carol won first place in the association’s songwriter of the year category. Dinner, auction at New Market Christian

New Market Christian Church will hold its annual ham and turkey supper and auction on Oct. 17. Food will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m., musical entertainment will be provided from 5 to 7 p.m. by Reborn Country and the auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. Among the items to be auctioned off are a denim quilt, fresh farm eggs, a church logo apron, baked goods, crafts and 10 tons of driveway rock delivered. There will also be a door prize.

‘Murder Among the Mateys’

Word of Life Church will host a dinner theater performed by Unmasked Drama at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 to benefit Riding Son Youth Ranch. Come enjoy Caribbean-inspired fare while watching “Murder Among the Mateys.” Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 12 and under. Seating is limited. Hope Fellowship changes service time

Hope Fellowship Church, 2921 N. Belt Highway, will change its worship time from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Oct. 18. Transportation is provided each Sunday. For more information, please call the church at 279-1000 or 279-8829.

Concert at Eastside Baptist

Eastside Baptist Church, 2400 N. Belt Highway, will be having a gospel concert featuring Four Fold Gospel Quartet at 6 p.m. Oct. 18. This male quartet makes their home in Scotts Hill, Tenn. There is no charge for the concert, but an offering will be received for the group. For more information, call the church at 233-8542.

F.U.N. at Faith United

Faith United Church, 3025 Karnes Road, will hold its F.U.N. (Family Unity Night) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 in the church’s fellowship hall. A family meal will be served, and a free-will offering will be taken. Devera Lambing is in charge of the program, which will be team-building activities for all ages.
