Attention, artists!

The deadline to enter the Trails West! Festival Artwork Competition is Jan. 29, 2010. The winning artist will receive $500, and his or her artwork will be featured on Trails West! buttons, T-shirts and promotional materials. Click, click, click

Deborah Weems, a photographer-artist, will conduct a two-day workshop on using a digital camera. The sessions will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 17 and 18, at Gallery 7, 118 N. Seventh St. Ms. Weems says that participants need to bring only their camera and the information manual that came with it. The fee for the workshop is $25 a day. Participants can enroll for one day or for both days. Payment will be due at the beginning of each session. To enroll, call Deborah Weems at 232-8493 or e-mail deborah_weems@yahoo.com.

They’ve got the gold to go with the brass

The Fountain City Brass Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Potter Hall Theater on the campus of Missouri Western State University. The Northwinds Symphonic Band also will perform. Admission is a free-will donation toward Fountain City’s upcoming tour of the United Kingdom. The Fountain City Brass Band is the reigning North American and U.S. Open Brass Band Champion, having won an unprecedented five consecutive national titles. ‘Beat’ it

“Art Beat,” a program to showcase the arts at Missouri Western State University and in the St. Joseph community, will premiere at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 on MWTV (channel 39 on St. Joseph Cablevision and channel 97 on Allegiance Communications, in Atchison, Kan.). Showtimes include 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. More airtimes may be added later.
