Concert at Eastside Baptist
Eastside Baptist Church, 2400 N. Belt Highway will be having a gospel concert featuring Four Fold Gospel Quartet at 6 p.m. Oct. 18. The members of this male quartet make their home in Scotts Hill, Tenn. There is no charge for the concert, but an offering will be received for the group. LDS women host quilting group
Come learn quilting basics with the women's group of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The women will start on an I Spy quilt from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 22. For the location and more information on materials needed, call Alaine 233-6061.
Usher Day at Elwood First Baptist
First Baptist Church, 306 N. Ninth St. in Elwood, Kan., will have its Usher Day program at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 25. The guest speaker will be Johnny Shephard, state usher president from Kansas City, Kan. The program also will feature gospel comedian Cathy Laky from Leavenworth, Kan. There will be special musical selections and refreshments following the service. The public is welcome. Trunk-or-treat
Huffman United Methodist Church, 28th and Renick, will host a trunk-or-treat event from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 25. Come in costume to the church parking lot and go trunk-to-trunk for treats. There will also be games with prizes and food inside the church's enrichment center. Kids of all ages are invited. The event is free. For more information, call the church office at 233-0239.
Bell ringers needed
The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers for its 2009 Red Kettle Campaign, which kicks off Nov. 6 at more than 12 locations in the community and continues through Christmas Eve, every day except Thanksgiving Day and Sundays.
All of the money donated to the red kettles stays in the community to fund Salvation Army programs year-round, including emergency rent and utility assistance, youth and senior programs and emergency disaster assistance.

Northwest choir to perform at Clyde monastery
Northwest Missouri State University's Tower Choir will perform a concert beginning at 7 p.m. Nov. 8, in the Adoration Chapel of the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration's monastery in Clyde, Mo.
The 48-member choral ensemble, joined by accompanist Dr. Charles Badami and soprano Dr. Pamela Shannon, will perform "Some Aspects of Bliss," a program that encompasses the happiest aspects of life such as love, music, conquering fear and knowing of heaven.
Under the direction of Dr. Stephen Town, the Northwest Tower Choir performs nationwide at high schools, colleges and universities, churches and other organizations. Tower Choir has also worked with nine nationally known choral conductors and has produced one CD, titled "Caritas et Amor: The Best of the Tower Choir 1999-2003."

Sale at Mitchell Park Christian
Mitchell Park Christian Church, 11th and Jackson streets, will offer chili and soup, as well as pie, punch, tea and coffee, for $5 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 12. There also will be ladies' sale items. For more information, call 279-0309.
Benedictines host discernment weekend
The Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde will open their doors from Nov. 13 to 15 to women discerning a call to religious life.
Hosted for single women ages 18 through 45, participants will take part in the Benedictine Sisters' daily prayer schedule, share meals and stay in the monastery's guest house. They will experience monastic life and learn about Benedictine practices.
