TITLE: Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records (BJU Records)
ARTISTS: New recordings from: Andy Cotton, Rob Garcia, Randy Ingram and ACT.
(Press Release) Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records is set to release the third wave of new recordings on its artist run label: bassist composer Andy Cotton’s “Last Stand at The Havemeyer Ranch,” drummer Rob Garcia’s “Perennial,” “The Road Ahead,” the debut recording from pianist Randy Ingram and the debut recording for the group ACT.
1. “Last Stand at the Havemeyer Ranch” - Andy Cotton: Under the influence of King Tubby, Fela Kuti, Appalachian fiddle music music, The Police and Sly Stone, Andy Cotton has created an album that captures a sound that’s been in his head for many years and one that uniquely represents the definition of Brooklyn Jazz Underground.
2. “Perennial” - Rob Garcia: “‘Perennial” pertains to cycles of nature, which we reflect in being human and being an artist,” explained Garcia of his third recording from a press release. “Many of the song titles are named after things that grow and things found in nature.”
3. “The Road Ahead” - Randy Ingram: Ingram is a thoughtful, versatile young pianist, composer and improviser. Many players have chops to spare; The pianist’s tunes are influenced by the compositional style of saxophone legend Wayne Shorter. They’re laced with an expressive touch and keen imagination.
4. “ACT” - ACT: The debut recording of ACT brings together the minds and music of Ben Wendel, Snoop Dogg, (yes Snoop Dogg), Daedelus, John Tesh and Billy Childs just to name a few.
A dark, moody and complex recording.
