Threads of Hope

The St. Joseph Baptist Association will sponsor its fifth annual Threads of Hope event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Civic Center Park. There will be clothing, books, food and drinks, as well as information on various interests and needs. Face painting and other fun activities for children will be provided. Everything is free, and everyone is invited. For more information, call 262-2174.

Sale at Ebenezer UMC

Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 7000 S.E. Highway 169, will host its 65th annual Lord’s Acre Sale today in the church’s fellowship hall. A turkey dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with a cost of $8 for adults and $3 for children. An auction will begin at 1 p.m.

Fun at Wesley UMC

Wesley United Methodist Church, Ajax and Pear streets, will be holding a Night of Fun and Song at 7 p.m. today at the church. Ten artists will be performing, and a reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics. The public is invited to attend.

In addition, the church will host trunk-or-treating in its parking lot from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Everyone is welcome.

Announcements from Faith United

Faith United Church, 3025 Karnes Road, will celebrate a harvest party from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church. There will be biblical games, face painting, food, snacks, bingo and a hayride.

On Sunday, Oct. 25, the Rev. Tom Morey will be the guest pastor for the 10:15 a.m. worship service. There will be special music by Grace Morey and Roy Pullen. Sunday school starts at 9 a.m.

Family Day at Hope Fellowship

Hope Fellowship Church, 2921 N. Belt Highway, will observe Family Day during its 10 a.m. worship service Oct. 25. The service will include special music by “One Song.” The public is invited.

The youth group, grades seven through 12, will meet at Hope Fellowship at 2:30 p.m. and go bowling at Belt Bowl from 3 to 5 p.m. For more information or for transportation, please call 279-1000 or 646-7665.

Sale, smorgasbord at Amity UMC

Amity United Methodist Church will hold its 68th annual Lord’s Acre Sale and Smorgasbord on Oct. 31 at the church. Games for children will begin at 10:30 a.m., with prizes being awarded. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for youth. Children under 6 eat for free. The auction and bazaar will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Second Harvest dedicates new building

Andrew County Ministries will host a dedication and open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 25. Scott Tomhave, director of Second Harvest in St. Joseph, will be the guest speaker. Second Harvest’s new building is located at 14375 County Road 367 in Savannah, Mo. It holds the Andrew County Ministries food bank, Backpack Buddies and a clothes closet. The community is invited to come and tour the facility. Refreshments will be served. County Road 367 is located off State Highway T after passing under the Highway 71 overpass going toward Amazonia, Mo., from Savannah.

Celebration at New Hope Baptist

New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1824 Sylvanie St. in St. Joseph, will hold its annual Men and Women’s Day worship celebration at 3 p.m. Oct. 25. The Rev. Charles and Corbetta East and the congregation of Second Baptist Church of Plattsburg, Mo., will be special guests. The theme will be “Together we stand/Divided we fall,” with Scripture reference Nehemiah 4:6. Everyone is welcome.

Woodson Chapel hosts events

Woodson Chapel Christian Church, 2525 St. Joseph Ave., will host a costume/Halloween party from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25. There will be games and refreshments; come in costume and enjoy the fun for all ages.

The church will also host a potluck and prayer meeting at 5:30 Wednesday, Oct. 28. For more information, go online to www.woodson-chapel.org.

Ladies of Charity meet Oct. 28

Ladies of Charity will meet Oct. 28 at St. Francis Parish Center, 2618 Seneca St. Rosary will begin at 11:40 a.m., followed by Mass at noon and then lunch and a business meeting. There will also be a TurnAround program. All women interested are welcome to attend.

McCarthy Baptist hosts Halloween alternative

The whole family is invited to a safe Halloween alternative from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 in McCarthy Baptist Church’s parking lot and activity building, located at 2710 S. Belt Highway. Come for food, carnival games, hay rides, trunk-or-treating, bouncy rides, horse rides, a dunking booth and much more. It’s all free and open to the community. Fall festival at Central Assembly

Central Assembly of God, 1222 N. 18th St. in St. Joseph, will host its annual fall festival from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 31 as a fundraiser for its youth department. There will be carnival games, a bake sale, a moon bounce, a costume contest and refreshments. Costume judging will place at 4:15 p.m. Tickets to play and buy food will be available. There are no age limits.

Warm up at First Church of the Nazarene

Stop by First Church of the Nazarene from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31, for a place to warm up. The church will offer free hot dogs, nachos and warm drinks. Kids can go trick-or-treating, get their picture taken in the Halloween costumes and decorate sugar cookies while adults stay warm. Best costume prizes will be awarded throughout the night, and adults can register for a chance to win gift cards to some of their favorite stores.

Maryville First UMC hosts bazaar

The United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church, 102 N. Main St. in Maryville, Mo., are busy preparing for their annual bazaar, set for Nov. 3. Doors will open at 7 a.m. to greet visitors at “Coffee and Chat” with fresh-made doughnuts, coffee cakes, juice and coffee. Various booths will offer a large assortment of items. The “Let’s Eat” lunch begins at 11 a.m. with “Methodist Stew,” which has been the main dish for many years, sloppy joes, chicken salad and ham sandwiches, salads and assorted homemade pies.

All proceeds from the event are used by the UMW for their mission projects.

Senior Adult Event is Nov. 5

The Senior Adult Event of the St. Joseph Baptist Association will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at Copeland Baptist Church, 2009 Walnut St. The morning session will consist of a short business meeting followed by inspirational speaker Captain Dana Cook of the Salvation Army. There will be a covered-dish luncheon at noon, followed by an afternoon session featuring a presentation of “Mary Todd Lincoln” by Amy Grier. There will also be a drawing for a door prize.
