Water company seeks rate increase
by St. Joseph News-Press
Friday, October 30, 2009

Missouri American Water filed an application with state regulators Friday to raise rates for water service in all of the company’s operating districts, including St. Joseph.

Missouri American Water said its ongoing investment in water system improvements and the increasing costs of delivering reliable service to customers are the main drivers behind the proposed rate hike. If the Missouri Public Service Commission approves, the new rates would generate 28 percent more revenue for Missouri American.

No rates will change until the commission, which regulates investor-owned utilities, completes a comprehensive audit of the request. The process normally takes about 11 months and includes opportunities for public input.

If they let yet ANOTHER water bill increase, I am going to buy a 500 gal water tank to catch rain water and plumb it for flushing all toilets,,, that should offset their raise!!

28% is a reach. They probably threw 28% out on the table in hope to get 14.

They sure as hell haven't been making any improvements to the water system in this area. And they don't run water "out" to the rural water districts. It sounds like they are wanting St. Joseph and area residents to pay for the rest of the service areas across the state. Funny how no one else ever has to pay for the improvements for the St. Joseph area.

As I said, they aren't/haven't been doing any here. If they have plans, they need to provide them; with details, including a time line for when they will be finished and the costs for the improvements here.

Charlie Shields, Rob Schaff, Brad Lager, Robert Schaaf: Time for you guys to actually do some work.

Our water is worse then it was when the plant was on the river.I mean ever since they opened the new plant make a pot of coffee and look at the slick on top of the coffee. They raised our water out of this world when the new plant opened and had to change our billing cycles from every 3 months to once a month because nobody would have been able to pay the 3 month bill when it came. How much more do they want? I would like to have the oil slick not in my coffee anymore I wonder if they are going to take care of getting the water better for us.
