With an average attendance of 1,853 fans per game, the St. Joseph Mustangs ranked No. 9 nationally in summer collegiate baseball attendance, according to the web site www.ballparkbiz.com
The Madison (Wis.) Mallards of the Northwoods League successfully defended their 2008 attendance crown with an average of 5,991 fans per game. The LaCrosse (Wis.) Loggers, also of the Northwoods League, again were second in attendance with an average of 3,266 fans per game. St. Joseph was the only MINK League team in the top 50.
“It just hit me as I was looking at it how great our attendance was,” Mustangs owner Dan Gerson said. “Some of the teams we beat are really high-profile teams.”
The Mustangs ranked 175th in the Web site’s “Mega Rankings” that included all independent and affiliated minor league franchises. In that ranking, St. Joseph finished above three American Association teams.
