CAMERON, Mo. — A Cameron man remained hospitalized Wednesday after being struck Tuesday by a pickup while walking across Missouri Route C about two miles west of Cameron.

Richard J. Wilcox, 23, was in fair condition Wednesday at Heartland Regional Medical Center, said Marcy George, a hospital spokeswoman.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Mr. Wilcox parked his vehicle at about 8 a.m. Tuesday before walking east across the straight stretch of the state route. At the same time, Jeremiah Wink, 29, drove a 2003 Ford pickup south on Route C. Mr. Wilcox stepped into the path of the pickup. The Highway Patrol stated that Mr. Wink sustained serious injuries.

He was transported Tuesday to Cameron Regional Medical Center and immediately transferred to a helicopter ambulance that flew him to Heartland, said Carol Arthur, a spokeswoman for the hospital.
