There definitely needs to be some of the younger men of the Parish or neighborhood help these men set up the stage, etc. My godfather & friends do a wonderful job, but they are getting up in age and are not going to be able to continue much longer without help. The Mexican Lady who did the confetti eggs was Ramona Canchola,(who I was named after)--she did this with patience and love to help the church. The fiesta runs today, July 31st and tomorrow August 1st, 5pm-11pm.
Congratulations Julia! I am so sorry I cannot be there in person to give my wishes to you. You are so deserving of this recognition that is long overdue. It would indeed be a wonderful world if more people lived by your simple rule of helping others and glorifying God in all things. I hope you know how special you are to the Farris family--you have been there for and with us through our happiest times and in our darkest hours Thank you for always being there. God Bless You!!
I used to live in the historic district on top of the hill right behind the law enforcement center and can tell you the trains never kept me from getting a decent night's rest. Anyone who knows anything about trains knows that blowing the whistle is a safety factor & regardless of the lights, crossing guards, etc is part of keeping citizens safe. Here's a novel idea--why doesn't the hotel install soundproof glass on the side of the building where people sleep? As long as the hotel has been there and all of the events they continue to book, I think they're making money. If they were losing so much to hotels on the Belt, they'd have closed a long time ago. The same people who are complaining about it now will start whining when someone gets killed by a train they didn't hear coming. Whiners not Doers!! Be grateful for what you have in your community!!
dalearch- If you watched the news last night you would have seen a worker interviewed that has a rash and said others had too. Why doesn't everyone out here stop slamming on liberals, lawyers, etc, and focus on the real issues: these toxins were allegedly in this sludge being given away for "free" to farmers. Nothing in this life is truly free. It is unfortunate that we have so many people suffering from these sins. I'm sure those in the Kirschner Addition are tied to this and this is all just the tip of the iceberg. If anyone watched the movie "Erin Brockovich" you would have seen that those people trusted what they were told. Look what happened. Thank goodness for her and what her relentlessness uncovered and helped so many people. Have your opinion, but if this was YOU or your FAMILY suffering this way, perhaps you'd be more sympathetic. It amazes me how quick people are to be negative and on the side of anyone other than Erin or the attorneys as you automatically assume they are vultures just in it for the money. Even if were their motiviation, which I do not think is the sole motivation, so what? If it helps those suffering be able to get answers and resolution then good. Doesn't everyone out here expect to be paid for doing their jobs?? There is much more to come and be uncovered. Let's wait to see what the end result is before condemning either side. Let's all be sympathetic to our fellow human beings..I wouldn't wish what they are going through. God Bless them all.
Carmen and family: Words cannot express the love my family had for Dolores. She and my mom Ruth (Cuca) were life long friends and the stories I have of the two of them traveling all over Kansas City together are numerous and heartwarming! One of the last day trips my Mom took before she passed away was with Dolores--picking up things for tamales :) I remember Mom and Dolores discussing a trip they wanted to take to Texas--not by plane but rather renting an RV and having my sister drive them and maybe a friend or two so they could enjoy the scenery and carry on. I only wished they could have done that but know that these two friends are together once again. She was truly a wonderful and kind person who was always there with a helping hand. May God Bless all of you in this time of sorrow. Much love and prayers,
We are so sorry to hear of Art's death. What a remarkable man! We have so many wonderful memories of all of you. You are in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless, Ramona and Roberta Farris Kansas City
No one denies that the services firefighters and police officers are vital to our community. However, with the way the economy is right now, everyone needs to be realistic. My company and many others in this area and nationwide are forgoing giving any raises this year in order to keep from laying off employees. Yes, it would be great to get your 3-5% annual raise, but is it really appropriate to ask for 9% right now? NO. Everyone knows when you apply for a job what the salary is. Teachers, firefighters, police officers, maintenance workers, etc on up and down the line. If you cannot afford to do it, then don't. Stop complaining about what you DON'T have and be GRATEFUL for what you DO...A JOB. I guarantee that the hundreds of thousands of Americans who are unemployed would be glad to take any job right now. I have family members who are and have been firefighters and know what the job entails. They loved their job and as with any other job, there are great parts and others you can do without. The point is it is better to be employed right now than not. Everyone is having to make sacrifices financially--learn what is a need and what is a want. There is a big difference!!
TheShadow--you are absolutely right. I am so tired of people complaining when little Johnny doesn't get a medal or trophy playing a sport, academically, etc. when he's on the team and parents don't want their kids feelings hurt. Perfect opportunity to teach your children a good lesson. You have to EARN these things through HARD WORK, not by just showing up. Mediocrity has become the standard and those who excel are made to feel as if something is wrong with them and they shouldn't get recongized. News alert people--LIFE ISN'T FAIR--each person has their talents and should work hard to the best of their ability. Being the smartest by no means ensures you success, but not trying certainly ensures failure. Congrats to these graduates--keep up the good work!!
If you have not visited this gem of a college that is a short 30 minute drive from St. Joseph, I encourage you to make the time. The 1500 student body represents individuals from over 30 states and over a dozen countries from various backgrounds. There is an amazing energy on campus--take in a sporting event, theater performance, guest lecture or attend Mass at the Abbey Church that sits atop the Missouri River Bluff. A very beautiful campus and school I am happy to see thrive. Sometimes we take for granted and overlook schools so close to home but I found it to be a great place to go to college--close enough to home yet far enough away to have my own independence and learn in an incredible environment.Obviously many colleges and universities have students from around the globe, but with only 1500 students, the one on one time meeting and interacting with so many varied individuals was a wonderful experience. GO RAVENS!!
