I would not be surprised if Glenda wrote the grant application and was the driving force in getting this done in the first place. She is a pretty smart cookie.

Cash for clunkers robbed from tomorrow for today's gratification. I see another slump in the fourth quarter.

Agreed. The problem with former administrations at the college was that they wanted to have Mo Western be the vision of an Ivy League campus instead of what it is, a commuter campus. They are trying to force it to be something it's not.

Yup, I just read (posted at 16:17) that Gray Manufacturing is laying off people. So much for "The recession is a boon for auto repair business" that the national media has been touting. Too bad, Gray makes some excellent equipment. I own several pieces of their equipment and it is first class. The fact of the matter is no matter how you wish and want folks can't spend money they don't have. Manufacturing has been struck, retail is faltering, and with retail goes a lot of commercial real estate. Service industries are feeling the pinch. Housing? Fugetaboutit. This is broader and deeper than anyone in power will admit.

Twas merely a joke, cubbie. I was poking fun at the smoking debate. That said, I hate to see ANY business close it's doors. Times are tough and getting tougher. I read the U-6 (unemployed/underemployed/no longer looking) is approaching 20%. We are far from out of the woods.

I wonder if they had a smoking section....... ;)

It is difficult to have rational discourse with irrational people. A simple statement of "let the market decide" brings out the haters from the anti smoking crowd. Nearly every resturaunt in town is no smoking. That is a decision the individual owners make. Yet that is not enough for the anti's, they want everyone to march lockstep with their idea of Utopia. Not to hammer the slippery slope argument too much, next will be calories and trans fats. Where does this end?

JohnGalt, it is not a property right whether to allow smoking in a public place. This is an exercise of the police powers of the government to restrict it.

The problem I have with a full smoking ban is the taking of property rights from the individual property owners. Absent any other external interference, the free market should decide who allows smoking and who doesn't. A restaurant that allows smoking would lose the non smoker's business and vice versa. Both the smokers and non smokers would be free to patronize whichever business suited them. In the end, isn't America about freedom?

A one in thirty two chance of fatality? That pegged my BS meter. Please cite the report and methodology. Just saying "a 2007 report" doesn't cut it for thinking individuals.
