For such a small town, Falls City sure seems to get its fill of drama. i.e.,Michael Ryan, Teena Brandon, Nick Koso, Ann Marx, just to name a few, now, this. My heart goes out to the family of this young lady, there's nothing natural about such a young life ending so soon.

We as Americans should be furious at the federal gov't and the parties. Our current candidates do not represent the interest of the people. Many people have agendas, such as, ending the war, reducing the fuel prices, more help for the "needy" etc... and they have selected their candidate based on these thin agendas. However, we need to wake up, and select our leaders based upon what's best for the country, not what's best for the individual. Politicians need to stop trying to "make their mark" on our country. We have so many bogus laws, bills, and amendments being pushed into effect every year, its insane. The federal gov't needs to get back to what the federal gov't is suposed to do. So what did the founders of the United States see as the role of government? Most of what they considered legitimate functions of the federal government are found in Article I, Section 8 of our Constitution, which says, in part: “The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States…To borrow Money on the credit of the United States…To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian tribes…To coin money…To establish Post Offices and post Roads…To raise and support Armies.” The framers granted the government taxing and spending powers for a few other activities, but nowhere in the Constitution do we find authority for up to threequarters of what our government taxes and spends for today. There is no constitutional authorization for farm subsidies, bank bailouts, or food stamps—not to mention corporate bailouts. We have made a significant departure from the constitutional principles of individual freedom and limited government that made us a rich nation in the first place.

These principles of freedom were embodied in our nation through the combined institutions of private ownership of property and free enterprise, both of which have suffered devastating attacks and are mere skeletons of what they were in the past.

You know, Rax, it's that mentality alone that allows our government to pass these socialistic laws. Personally, I value our democratic government. I could not tolerate a socialist government or dictatorship. You reference speed limits as an argument, speed limits are an entirely different class of law, speed with relation to the control of an automobile, affects other people. Speeding at 100 mph down the belt costs others their safety and livelihood, not wearing a seatbelt only harms the individual.

Congratulations, Steve. I have great concerns for the future of our country. Do you remember when, a little league baseball game was competitive? When there was a winner and a loser? When some kids didn't get to play, because they missed practice? Today, there are no winners or losers, everyone plays regardless of their ambition, and everyone played a perfect little game. This is a bad trend. Competition makes us strive to be better or even great, sitting on bench made me show up for practice, winning felt great, losing sucked, but it was a fact of life. If we hand everything to our children, and the reward is the same, regardless of effort, what motivates a child to try? Don't get me wrong, all children should play, and don't ridicule a team or child for losing, but what ever happened to good ol' fashioned competion? The children know this concept as well, look at the video games glued to their hands. Trust me, there's a chance to be a winner in those games, and a loser. This whole no winner, no loser thing is something some parent concocted, because they're too disinterested in their child to explain the concept of a "game" or maybe just too busy to care or play catch with jr.!

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
As you can see, our original government was established for the general welfare and common defense of our great country. It was not established for "individual" welfare nor the enforcement of moral law. I do believe seat belts should be a choice. Personally, I always wear one, and demand any passengers in my vehicles wear one as well. However, it is not within the scope of our government, whether federal, state, or civil, to mandate such actions. What's next, a law rationing salt? Maybe a law mandating the use of hats when exposed to direct sunlight? Better yet, a law limiting the number of cheeseburgers an individual may consume within a certain period. Our government needs to get back to what's important, and in turn, I am sure it will save us all a fortune in taxes by abolishing these penny ante legislations.
