I wonder if the school counselor at Elwood has changed her opinion of high school since I was there many years ago. You see, back then she didn't believe that high school was meant to be college preparatory and even said so much to students.

While I understand the concerns of both the residents and the school officials, everyone involved needs to take emotion and their own personal agendas out of the equation and decide what's best for the future of the children to be educated in these schools. This isn't about whether or not each town will lose their hometown sports teams (although that mentality is present). This is about education, people.

There is no where that is important enough for any of us to be in a hurry to not obey crossing signals.

In light of the tragic accident in Augusta, KS over the weekend, where a mother and her 3 year-old daughter were killed in a train v. car collision, we all should be more mindful of all traffic laws. While this particular incident doesn't appear to be due to the mother's negligence (her car stalled on the tracks on a private drive), it really makes me realize how little reaction time we have in a situation like this. My prayers go to the family, including the 7 year old sister and her brother who pulled her out just in time.

This isn't a shock at all. A friend in upper management at the casino told me that Bonnie Sue was at the casino gambling DAILY. Now we know it was with other people's money. What a slime ball.
