Every opportunity that is out there should be instituted, voted upon, and fully utilized to improve the entire city, not just certain sections. We as a community should have the confidence to go anywhere in this city and find things to see and do as well as not be ashamed of showing it off to visitors. We should have the capabilitie of bringing in a huge influx of visitors that would want to see both the old and new of St. Joseph and its future potential. Alienating sections of town is not a productive approach. When it is all said and done, downtown, the East, North, South and West ends all have problems to deal with, and they all need to be addressed and resolved across the board. No section should be neglected. The issue on the sidewalks, I am not all that familar with some of the developments out there, but if any of those developments are private and gated communities, then I have a pretty good idea of why the issue is the way it is in those places, based on my previous municipality experience. Whether it right or fair is another matter, but if I can be enlightened a bit, maybe I can offer some insight and help address those situations. There are plenty of resources out there already to help address issues, the challenge is finding those resources and encouraging the right people who know how to address the issues to address them properly. Many times resources are out there, but we do not know they even exist. This is where our elected officials can really help, by assisting the public in finding those resources and getting them into play. Cities whose councils utilize this philsophy to its maximum potential are productive and successful. A classic example is Cape May, NJ. Another right south of us, Branson. Alot of people joke about Roswell, NM, but that community found a way to make a successful city based on a story and they are expanding. Opportunity is out there, we have to seixe it. So my question to you Apple, what do you know about how a municipality runs?

All this other stuff is interesting reading, but this is about an elected individual who is supposed to lead this community into positive directions and instead displays a continual behavioral pattern and everytime this occurs, several days later "apologies" are published that in my view mean nothing just based on their tone in the way they are presented. The behavior needs to be addressed and dealt with appropriately. There should be guidelines for that within the HR administrative system that all municipalities are supposed to have for conduct of elected officials and staff. Supposed links to a perception of the population bases mindset, college degrees, etc have nothing to do with this. This is an individual who needs help with controlling his behavior or needs to move on from the position he presently holds. He is the one who continually gets out of control, not the CM. Solutions need to be found by the Council to control their own that are most likely within administrative parameters already in place, just not being utilized, and we as a community need to find encourage, and elect the right person who will conduct the way it is supposed to be accomplished.

Teacherlady, you should send your post to Newsweek, Time magazine, etc. I got a good kick out of it. :) It about hit on every major national story out there now. Nice to see a good sense of humor on the forum now and then, breaks up the serious and often heated debates on here. By the way, Rush rocks, and I listen to Rush for what it is, entertainment.

By the way Pops, excellent response to Apple's attacks on those who disagree with her. The school issue does not belong on this forum in my view, this is about behavior at council meetings, not schools.

Real nice attitude Apple, a real healthy thought process in engaging the community. In my view, that is the kind of attitude that has hindered progress, the lack of respect for opposing or differing view points. The school issue failed because there were problems with it from the very start and even people who pushed it knew it. This issue the other night was uncalled for, and he should be recalled, step down, or there should be some utilization of the processes that are out there to address this. This is a constant problem that keeps recurring and it affects the public business. In my view, this is a personnel problem, and it should be dealt with like any organization with procedures in place to handle an HR issue. All elected officials sign an oath when they take office, and I am pretty sure in that oath of office addresses conduct.

Latitude has just been condoned for an unstable region of the world to continue to build serious weapons with one goal of challenging each other in a dangerous game of duel. This is serious business and as time goes on it will be interesting to see how this plays out. If the plan for peace and stability goes south, there will be alot of reprucussions throughout the world. That region of the world loves business, but does not subscribe to Western values, it never has. The few countries that do tolerate some Western influence are those who give enough latitude in order to conduct business with the US as well as Europe. When it comes to business, these few countries over there are very sharp at it. However, they also behind the scenes will support extremists with causes that are against our way of life. In other words, the region as a whole wants us gone. We as a country need to find solutions to bring that concept into reality and band together to do whatever it takes to prevent that. This is just my opinion.

238er, I completely understand, believe me, there is no excuse, they should all know what they are voting on or they delay the process until they figure it out. Thecitizen, soon, that opportunity will arise when terms expire. Apple, make yourself heard regardless if you cannot make it. shoot them off a letter, a cordial one, they all have email.

For the record, later today they get a chance to re-consider this. Before taking shots, I reccommend we all wait and see how it plays out. And those in the community who can make the time period this will occur, I strongly recommend they show up if they have a real interest in this, for or against. Apple, you are vocal about this, you should be there and state your case from the public standpoint. This is your chance to be heard in my view, take advantage of it.

No deals Apple, you have on other posts called people including council "stupid" "idiotic" etc and that appears to be your thought process when policies or agendas do not move in your favor. In my view about past events, the past needs to be looked at in order to move ahead successfully and to gain support for initiatives that are supposed to move the entire community forward, not just pieces of it. Past arguments with school issues in my opinion have hurt the present cause, not the Reeder factor. As far as campaigns go, I know fully well it takes money to run, promote and market a campaign, however, if there was a high confidence level this was going to pass without worry, it would not have been needed regardless of whatever
Reeder or any others against it through at it money wise to to try and stop it. If the initiative had credibility from the start along with strong buy in from the public that this was the way to go, it would have passed with no worries about anything. Contradictory statements and arguments from the past also put a dent in that. I disagree with the "first step" philisophy. If the initiative had addressed what is going to be done with every building as time goes on and had more of a long term approach, it would have flown by. The present initiative alienated over half the community. And we still do not get it overall. We continue to stick with the mindset half the community was "uninformed" etc. As to why we still stay, poverty stricken is not a reason. Everyone has the ability to move anytime they want, it is the will to do so. Alot of highly educated and middle to upper income people live in this community and they have tended to stick around regardless of its issues. Even outsiders have come in in recent years. There are reasons for that, this is not a bad place to be in spite of its issues.
