The study is only a reflection of the generation of parents who raised these children. Scary thing is that these parents are likely the same idiots who will be running our country soon.

To clarify about the $55k - this money was not spent to purchase additional property, it is simply to mitigate the existing land.
As taken from the District's website:
" The St. Joseph School District purchased a 16-acre tract at Cook and Bishop Roads for future construction of an elementary school.
A small stream enters the northwest corner of the property and travels some 800 feet. The stream is under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. The District was required to provide the Corp with a mitigation plan since the stream would be taken out of service due to construction.
The Corp accepted a one-time payment of $55,275 to the Missouri Stream Stewardship Trust Fund.
Once the payment is made, the District has 24-months to remove the stream. After that work is completed, the Corp will release control of the property to the District and clear it for construction. A proposal for removal of the stream is being prepared by Bartlett & West."
More money will be spent on this land in the near future, money that may not be readily available. This is exactly why the District should not have purchased additional land without the buy-in from taxpayers. They are now committed to removing this stream within 24 months, regardless of availability of funding or plans for future school.
This is a classic example of how the Board fails to properly develop a long-term plan, and assumes it will always get taxpayer blessing before getting approvals.

What had the potential to be a fabulous addition to St Joe has sadly turned into a fiasco.
1) A 5-yr commitment is clearly not a long-term investment nor vote of confidence on the part of the Chiefs to stay in Joetown.
2) This contract going to a KS company demonstrates how development funds will not be stimulating our economy. Sure, construction workers will spend a few dollars eating out or staying in hotels, but let's be honest, this isn't really the great stimulator many were looking for.
I'm hoping this facility will be built in a way that will be conducive to community use once the Chiefs vacate, especially since it was imperative to have "highwawy" visibility.
St Joe has the potential to have a versatile building built to house many community activities; I am positively hoping that they will take this opportunity to harness that concept.

Excellent letter, Ms Gabler. I was thinking the same thing when it came to Mr. Booher's article. Colonoscopies have a negative connotation in many folks minds; however, it is certainly not an embarrassing procedure and it prevents so many deaths annually.
nana: you are not alone! this has been one of my biggest complaints about the NP - they are notorious for publishing events, activities, fundraisers, public awareness events AFTER they have occurred. seems they don't want their readership to attend any of these events.

Mr Mayor: Memorial Day is for remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country; Veterans Day honors those who have served and are still alive. I agree that we should thank our living veterans as often as possible.

Trixie: There were a great many students who were very upset with BO's attendance at their graduation. They organized a group and produced a formal petition with thousands of signatures to revoke the invitation. What will be interesting to observe going forward for ND will be:
a) admission numbers - will they decrease?
b) how much money alumni and donors contribute annually (already contributions are down $14MM this year alone, but one could argue economic hardship).

Ohhh yes, he's watching California - and he can't wait to bail it out too so the great BO will be controller of all things... autos, finance, states.... oh yes, he's thrilled at the idea of "helping" CA back to the fast track.
